What Is Single-Cultivar Matcha?

Single-cultivar matcha comes from just one tea plant variety, so you can taste its natural personality. Each cultivar brings its own flavor - maybe sweet, creamy, or rich with umami - and because it’s not blended, the taste is pure and more flavorful, letting you experience matcha at its best.

  • If you’re new to matcha, we recommend starting with our Yame Tanuki Blend (Blue Tins) it’s our best-seller and a crowd favourite for a reason. The flavour is nutty, buttery, and lightly umami, with no bitterness or astringency, making it perfect for everyday lattes or sipping straight.

    Looking for something extra buttery?

Try our Yame Usagi Blend it has a richer chocolatey taste with a beautiful creamy finish.

We also offer seasonal blends and single cultivars for those who want to explore different matcha profiles and dive deeper into the matcha experience.

  • They’re both different, but equally beautiful! Yame (Blue Tins) is nutty, buttery, and has a popcorn-like finish, while Uji (Green Tins) is richer in umami with a more aromatic profile.

Think of Yame as slightly sweeter, and Uji as a little more savoury.

  • All of our matcha at Anya Matcha is ceremonial grade, made from the first spring harvest (first flush) in Japan. It’s carefully harvested, processed and air-shipped to Australia to retain its freshness, vibrant colour, and smooth flavour.
